Hi all ,

Equipment : CUCM  System version: 7.1.5.32900-2

Hardware   :  Platform Type 7845H2

we have problems to upgrade the Phone 6941 Firmwareversion SCCP69xx.9-1-1-1-sr to SCCP69xx.9-2-2-6 .

the following problems occur:

The phone displays the new firmware, the phones are registered on the CUCM, calls come in and be displayed but the phone does not ring. The TFTP log shows

<CLID::NewCluster> <NID::xxxx> <LVL::Error> <MASK::0004>

05/10/2012 09:07:33.073 TFTP | CReqContext :: tftp [0xdf9cf80 ~ ~ 467 ~ 49 297 10.103.5.94] File [SEPxxxxx.cnf.xml] not found | <CLID::NewCluster> <NID :: 10.1. 31.31> <LVL::Error> <MASK::0004>

05/10/2012 09:07:34.981 TFTP | CReqContext :: tftp [0xdf9e340 ~ ~ 469 ~ 49 296 10.38.30.139] File [CTLSEPxxxxx.tlv] not found |

it looks as if the phones do not download the config files .

The problem only occurs with older phones Hardwrerevision. For phones with the latest hardware revision, everything works perfect.

has anyone  a  solution ?

thanks

Hajo

Hi Hajo,

Please go to System > Service Parameter > Select the Publisher server >

Select TFTP server > Click on Advanced button.

1.Set the Enable Caching of Constant and Bin Files at Startup

parameter to *False*.

2.Set the Enable Caching of Configuration Files parameter to *False*.

After that restart the TFTP service and the phone and see if the phone is

using the new firmware and working fine.

Hi Tere ,

thank you for the hint. what are the impacts of this change ? I test it asap .

Hi Hajo,

The parameters only determine whether the TFTP server will cache firmware  binary files, locale files, and constant files such as ringlist.xml and config xml files at  startup. There's no need to worry if you change this parameter.

Another option is to try just restarting the TFTP process. This will rebuild all the configuration files for the phones. This shoud only take a few minutes. During this time, phones won't be able to boot, but booted, working phones will function normally.

Hi Hajo,

You  can get resolved your issue with this step:

1.Set the Enable Caching of Constant and Bin Files at Startup

parameter to *False*.  ??????

Thanks

Hello all ,

I test the upgrade in our lab with 2 Cisco 6941 Phones and a WAN Simulator . In this test it looks like we hinting the knowing bug. If we upgrade from Software 9-1-1-1 to 9-2-2-6-Sr1 and use the wan simulator settings ( delay 80 ms 2 Mbit  1 % error )  the upgrade hung .The upgrade from 9-2-2-6-Sr1 to a higher software version works without any problems ( the same WAN settings ) .  Now we use the local router as TFTP Server to upgrade all the phones to the software 9-2-2-6-ES1.  This works fine.....

Thank you for all the usefull answers...

Hi Hajo,

I was looking into BugToolkit and found the below Bug.

CSCto31256 Bug Details

69XX phones have 10 min TFTP DL timeout. Upgrade fails over WAN.
Symptom:
69XX model phones (6921, 6941, 6961) have a 10 minute TFTP download timeout. Phones upgrades over a WAN with over 100 msec of Round Trip Time (RTT) delay may not be able to successfully upgrade. The phone will attempt to download the file, but after several failed attempts will register with the old phone firmware version.

Conditions:
Upgrading a 69XX phone over the WAN with greater than 100 milliseconds of RTT delay.

Workaround:
Move the phone to a central location, or use a TFTP server that is located locally to the phone

regds,
