Hi Team,
I am planning to upgrade firmware of Collaboration Endpoint (DX & SX) from CUCM running on 12.5 SU7 Mega Cluster.
I know the basics of 'how to do it' but my question is it necessary to restart the tomcat Service on all nodes within the cluster and restart the Cisco CallManager Service only on Publisher (as it is running) after the Firmware Upgrade?
If you have any artifacts in this reference then that would be really helpful. I have googled it but not getting much supportive document from Cisco to conclude that we do need to restart the tomcat Service on all nodes within the cluster and restart the Cisco CallManager Service only on Publisher (as it is running) after the Firmware Upgrade.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Sir,
Again with all due respect, I am trying to have a healthy conversation here, I humbly request you, please watch your tone.
I am trying to understand why a Cisco Document would tell us to restart the tomcat or CallManager Service after the Firmware Upgrade. Trying to understand the co-relation of restarting the tomcat or CallManager Service with Firmware Upgrade.
I have also performed many Firmware upgrade without doing these service restart but as because I came across this documentation so wanted to have a conversation on this to deep dive into this.

I'm just asking the fair question: What is your expectation of answers to your question? Do you need 3 people telling you the same, 10 people, 20 ... ?
We are all not from Cisco, we are not working for Cisco and we are not making the documentation. We can only speak from our own experience and all the years of practical work with CUCM. And as experience is never ultimate, you will never get an ultimate answer.
If you have problems with misleading documentations, then you should clarify this with Cisco. Open a TAC, discuss this with Cisco and let everyone else know your newly acquired wisdom.

May be I am still unable to portray my point to you. As I explained earlier that I only trying to understand the co-relation of restarting the tomcat or CallManager Service with Firmware Upgrade, that is the main reason behind of opening this thread.
My intention is not to get the Firmware Upgrade Steps validated with 3, 10, 20.... people in this forum. It is just that wanted to understand the co-relation of restarting the tomcat or CallManager Service with Firmware Upgrade, nothing else.
You may be right that the document I was referring earlier may be misleading, definitely if I open TAC and come to know anything concrete about this then surely I will post here.
Thanks for your valuable time.

When upgrading the firmware of Collaboration Endpoint devices (DX & SX) from a Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) running on a Mega Cluster, it is not necessary to restart the Tomcat service on all nodes within the cluster or restart the Cisco CallManager service on the Publisher after the firmware upgrade.
The firmware upgrade process for Collaboration Endpoint devices typically involves uploading the new firmware to the CUCM, configuring the firmware load on the device pool or individual devices, and triggering a phone reset or reboot for the devices to load the new firmware.
During the firmware upgrade process, the CUCM handles the distribution of the new firmware to the devices, and the devices themselves will perform the necessary actions to update their firmware without requiring manual intervention on the CUCM server.
It is worth noting that while the firmware upgrade process should not require restarting the Tomcat service or the Cisco CallManager service, it's always a good practice to review the release notes and documentation provided by Cisco for the specific firmware version you're upgrading to. These documents may contain any special instructions or considerations related to the firmware upgrade process or any related services.
If you have any doubts or concerns about the firmware upgrade process or require specific documentation for your particular firmware version, it would be best to consult Cisco documentation, reach out to Cisco support, or engage a certified Cisco partner for assistance. They can provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the firmware upgrade procedure and any associated service restart requirements.

Thanks for your response. Somehow Release Note of CE9.15.17.4 does not say much about the Firmware Upgrade Process from CUCM.

Hi All,
It seems like tomcat & CallManager service restart is mostly required for new device type and if we face below issues:
