Hi,

I have a lab 2811 running cme8.6, with an vic2-2fxs connected to an old tesco branded corded phone.

Whenever the phone is on hook it wont stop ringing.

can anyone offer any pointers? calls between the 7960 and analog phone work but when the analog phone is put back on hook it keeps ringing

You need to plug that phone into an FXS port.  It's not going to work correctly on an FXO port.  That's for connection to a telco line.

It is plugged into an fxs port, there are currently no fxo ports on the router

Ok.....look at your original post:

>I have a lab 2811 running cme8.6, with an vic2-2fxo

There are no FXS ports on that card.

Run a "show inv" and post the output here please.  Let's see what's really there.

Ah, sorry.. my fault for not proof reading first.

A few thoughts:

  • Do you have access to another analog phone (preferably different type) you can plug in and try?  If so, does it have the same issue?
  • Did you try both analog ports and get the same behavior?
  • Did you try resetting the port by doing a shut/ no shut on the voice port?
  • Did you try rebooting the router?
  • By default the FXS ports are loop start.  It sounds like your phone may be doing something odd (if the ports are correct).  You could try flipping it to ground start using the following commands:

voice-port 0/0

signal ground-start

shut

no shut

Once the port is reset, try it again.  If you do these things and it doesn't work or doesn't resolve the issue, you'll be at the point where you potentially need to break out a volt meter and see what's happening on the wire.  An FXS port will go high (nominally up to about 48v DC, but Cisco gear seems to be less than that....but it will be higher than the idle voltage of around 12v).  I've never seen or tried it, but I'm betting that if the port is right, and the phone is a ground start type, it might do what you're describing.

Interesting problem.  Let us know.

I have a year old cordless phone if that would work?

Ok,

changed both voice-port 0/2/0 and 0/2/1 to groundstart,

no dial tone on either the cordless or corded phone (cordless on 0/2/1) (ringing also stops).

tried swapping the phones between ports, no change.

changed both back to loopstart and have dial tone, but corded phone rings.

Interestingly as soon as i press the green call button on the cordless phone, without dialling a number the corded phone ceases ringing

Ok.  At this point, your troubleshooting is pointing to the card.  Do you have another one you can try?  And did you try moving it to a different WIC slot?

If you don't have another card, the only other thing I can think of to try is a different IOS load.  You might be hitting some kind of bug.

Just tried moving it to another WIC slot with no change.

Current IOS is c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.151-4.M7.bin

I've also noticed that the corded phone will only get a dial tone when plugged into port 0, but the cordless will get a dial tone plugged into either port?

also, calls from cordless to corded work, but not the other way round?

I'll see what IOS is running on the other 2811 and try that

[edit]

151-4.M1 (adventerprise) has the same problem, as does  124-9.T2

Could be an issue with the cable

Have you tried changing it?

Tried a 2 pin cable?

Cheers

I've tried 5 cables I had lying around, 3 of them got nothing so I assumed they were damaged and binned them.

the working 2 are both 4 pin and both have the same result. I've never seen a 2 pin/wire rj11 cable sold/ didn't know they existed so don't have one to hand

If anyone else has this problem, I managed to solve it by using two digital/cordless phones.

For some reason this card just wont work with any analog phone that I tried.
