Gateway setup

We have 2 buildings that are connected via fiber. Building A has the voice gateway and CallManagers attached to it. We would like to put another gateway in Building B with 2 POTS lines hooked up that way in case of a fiber cut or outage that building can still dial 911. What is the recommended path for setting this other gateway up so the users in Building B still use the gateway in Building A and only use this gateway in an outage? We are currently using MGCP.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Do you have any CUCM servers in building B?

If not then your only way to get this accomplished you be to define this GW as SRST reference for all or selected users in building B, keep in mind SRST is a licnesed feature and GW platform drives the number of supported phones on it.

Chris

Thank you for your response. We do not have any CUCM servers in building B.

So your saying just connect it to CallManager and set it up as SRST and define all the phones in that building (roughly 120ish) to that SRST gateway? We would just have to purchase an SRST license then.

Configure the router as SRST reference in CUCM. Assign it to the device pool used by phones at site B (you may need to build new DP to designate which phones will use it).

Then purchase SRST licenses (which are just soft licenses), configure the router with call-manager-fallback settings, and define dial-peers for 911 and any other routing you want to use these POTS lines for.

HTH,

Chris
