Hello,
I am having 2800 series router equipped with two PVDM2-64 cards and two different PRIs are working. Now i want to know how many simultaneous calls (Incoming & Outgoing) can be handled, if both PRI's are active. Router's image feature set is SPSERVICESK9-M and version is "124-24.T4.bin"
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

Hi Rahul,
You can have 30 voice channels simultaneously active on one E1 PRI.
In your case,it would be 60.

Rahul,
This all depends on what your dsp codec complexity mode is set to. If you use the default flex mode then PVDM2-64 will support 64 voice channels for both inbound and outbound however if your dsp complexity is set to high, then you will have half of that available..Ie 32 channels.

Hi,
Thanks for reply. Can you please guide on ow to check the existing dsp codec complexity mode on router?

You can use this command,
show voice dsp group all

Hi,
Thanks. Just wanted to know what is the default complexity mode on router , as i am not seeing anything configured related to complexity under voice-card.

Then its using the default complexity which is flex mode...You can confirm this by using the command I posted above...post the output

Hi Rahul,
It depends on Harwdare module which we are using which is configurable through IOS.
Hardware | Default Complexity |
---|---|
NM-HDV | Medium |
NM-HDA | Medium |
AIM-VOICE | Medium |
NM-HD-1V/2V/2VE | Flex |
NM-HDV2, NM-HDV2-1T1/E1, and NM-HDV2-2T1/E1 | Flex |
Cisco IAD2430 Integrated access device | Flex |

hi,
Ok. it means it will support of 60 simultaneous calls (incoming & outgoing)right?..if yes how can we check these 60 calls on PRI?.. means do i need to dial 60 different numbers?
04-18-2013 10:40 AM
Hi ,
U can check through show isdn calls active can give u the status of active calls whether Incoming or outgoing.
You would be having a Pilot number provided by Service Provider and DID if provided.
u can check by making isdn test call interface s0/0/0:1 987853211[PSTN number]
isdn test call interface s0/0/0:2 76241033[Landline number]

Hi,
If both PRI are member of MRGL for transcoding & conferencing then what will be the number of total calls supported by those PRI?
04-20-2013 10:20 AM
8
Rahul..You need to understanding how resources are allocated on dsps. This is done via credits allocation. Each dsp has a maximum pof credits it can support and based on the configured voice channels, transcoding or conference resources as well as the codec complexity, the total number of voice/xcoding/conference channels are determined..
Please refer to this documents...
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-29164
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-29151
Based on the output of the command you provided..
You have 8 dsps...Each dsp has a total of 240 credit...
DSP 1 has a total 16 channels used..hence this dsp has no free credit available
DSP2 has a total of 14 channels configured for voice (14*15=210 credits) and 1 channel for xcoding (using 30 credit) making a total of 240 credits...Hence this dsp has no free credit available
DSP3 has 7 channels for xcoding ( a total of 30*7=210 credits) and 2 voice channels...hence no credit available
DSP4 has 16 channels allocated..hence no credits available
DSP5 has only 12 channels (15*12=180 credits) hence you hvae 60 free credits here...( which is 4 voice channels or 2 xcoding channels)
DSP6 has 240 free credits....which is 16 voice channels
DSP 7 also has 240 credits free
DSP 8 is reserved for conferencing and supports 2 sessions..
So in summary you have configured...60 PRI channels, 8 medium complexity xcoding channels and 2 g729 conference sessions...
You have available a total of 540 credits...which can support 540/15= 36 voice channels...This will be equivalent to 1 additional E1 PRI

Hi,
Thank you very much for these links.
can you please confirm what will be the normal CPU usage if 12-15 calls are unning on PRI. I am getting 70% usage once or twice.
