How to confirm that the compact flash external drive works

To the educated cisco techs out there,

Unfortunately the CF1 LED (green light emitting diode) on the back of my 2691 router for my compact flash external drive doesnt light up when a 256mb  cisco brand memory card is pushed into it.(is only one way to be pushed in)

The black tab on the left side of it comes out to indicate is inserted correctly but LED not light up.

Have taken card out to ensure no dust or debris in drive.

I run command ... format slot0 and IOS comes back saying device not available/recognised

I run command ...show diag and output appears normal.

Took card out and formatted via USB memory card reader..formats to normal standard. Inserted back into router and same message again.

Perhaps the card is no good.

If you like I can provide the output of the show diag command..let me know please..

What is the maximum MB capacity for this interface?

Does any techs have any ideas?

And 1 more question if I may.

Want to configure phone in preparation for use

In telephony-service mode, I run web admin but comes back as unrecognised command...appears to be missing

My current IOS version 12.2 (13)

Much appreciated again

Hi John

256MB is the default, max 8GB so that is not the issue. Is this the CF card which was delivered with your device?

Are you sure the card should be in slot0? Can you try "dir all"?

Do you have the possibility to try another CF card?

Hi Thijs,

Output of dir all.

I've played with the internal and external CF of the 2691.  The max I've played with during that time was 2 Gb.  Never tried 8 Gb but I don't believe it's supported up to this size.

Pop the cover and see if the CF is recognize when you insert it internally.  If it is, then Slot0 is faulty.

NOTE:  Why is this thread in the Telephony section?  Please move it (upper right-hand corner) to the correct section.

Hi Leo,

Done what you suggested. The system replies with below information:-

Upgrade ROMMON initialized

slot0: CompactFlash not present.

System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(8r)T2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Upgrade ROMMON initialized

boot: cannot determine first file name on device "flash:"

Upgrade ROMMON initialized

rommon 1 >

cme_router#format slot0:

Format operation may take a while. Continue? [confirm]

Format operation will destroy all data in "slot0:".  Continue? [confirm]

Enter volume ID (up to 64 chars)[default slot0]:

%Error formatting slot0 (No device available)

Upgrade ROMMON initialized

So I am assuming this disk contains necessary information too boot up.

I placed another 256mb cisco brand compact flash memory card into the interface.

Attempted format via

cme_router#format slot0:

Format operation may take a while. Continue? [confirm]

Format operation will destroy all data in "slot0:".  Continue? [confirm]

Enter volume ID (up to 64 chars)[default slot0]:

%Error formatting slot0 (No device available)

This tells me the interface is dead. Is there a way the interface can be replaced. It is a slim metal tray on the motherboard. Is that possible?
