How to setup phone numbers on CUCM/CUCME

Hi guys,

I have one office in Sydney with phone number 61 2 8437 9217 and one office in New York with phone number 1 212 435 7249 (full diagram in attach). Each site has it's own extension range, 168XXX in Sydney and 169XXX in New York respectively. However, it's not clear where I should configure 61 2 8437 9217 and 1 212 435 7249 on Sydney and New York sites respectively.

Should I configure them in ephone-dn (in CME) and in Phone (CUCM) sections?

Thank you.

If it is cme, then you can configure translation rule & profile to map DID with extension series apply the translation profile at dial peer level or voice port level. In cucm you can create translation pattern to do the same.

Hi Aakim,

for Syndey  voice gateway,

Create inocoming dial-peer with whatever digits you received from service provider and send them to CUCM. Then on CUCM you can send the call to extension after doing digit manipulation.

On NY CME

Create an translation-rule for incoming called number( translate this to internal extension) and apply it to the inbound pots dial-peer from provider.

Hi Deepak,

Thank you for your reply.

let me provide you one example o make it more clear. For instance I have 100 phones in Sydney and the same quantity in New York. Voice gateway, translations rules and dial-peers are properly setup on both sides. When someone in Sydney dials 1 212 435 7249 which phone will ring on New York site and the same with Sydney site being dialed from New York? :) In other words, PSTN company knows that 61 2 8437 9217 is assigned to the specific organization in Sydney, and 1 212 435 7249 is assigned to the specific organization in New York. The question is, which IP phone out of a bunch of phones will ring in Sydney's or New York's office. Should it be configured on CME and CUCM?

Thank you.

As i can see from the diagram both sites have separate ingress points from PSTN.

Based on this assumption on sydney site CUCM can decide which phone to ring ( you can create translation rules for DID-extension mapping) .

Also for NYC you will do it on CME, so you can just configure inbound dial-peer's from PSTN with proper translation-profile for incoming number range.

Thanks

Hi Deepak,

Thank you for your reply.

Just noticed that the diagram is not complete and because of that is probably confusing. I attached complete one. Please take the connection over PSTN into account. And probably, I used incorrect term "DID" for my question.

Thank you.

To put it simply, a DID assuming your telco delivers you 4 digits, you'll only get 9217 from the above example, you'll configure DN 9217 in a phone in Sydney. There is a 1:1 mapping between the DIDs you bought, and the DNs on the phones.

Same theory for NY, and yes, you need to configure all this on whatever call control you're using for the site.

If you don't want to do the exact DN mapping, then you'll need to configure whatever digit manipulation you require, to work with your dial plan.

I'd strongly suggest you hire a consultant for this.

Hi guys,

It looks like I have two options. For a single direct number, a secondary number should be configured for a phone in CUCM or ephone-dn in CME. For a range of direct numbers, translation rules should be configured to translate direct numbers to extensions.

Is that's correct?
