Intercom question....

Ray Morehead

Our hospital is looking for a way to be able to page nurses via intercom, I know that CUCM does not support broadcast intercom which is what we need. I know (unless this has changed) that cucme supports broadcast intercom.

Heres my question: Since we already have CUCM running on our network, would it be possible or even a good idea to install CUCME in different departments to support broadcast intercom? I know that there are a lot of 3rd party vendors that have developed broadcast intercom, but I would prefer not having to install yet another piece of software.

Hi Ray,

Hope all is well my friend

I just wanted to add my 2 cent$ to the good info from Java, Chris

& Michal (+5 each guys!)

If it were me, and you are running this in a Health Care environment

I would definitely go with more of an "Enterprise" solution. When the paging

requirement could be a life & death situation, I wouldn't want to have

the old "barbed wire & duct tape" type setup. Going with an enterprise

solution would allow broadcast paging, zone paging, overhead paging,

pushing "emergency" text to IP phones, etc. etc.

Here's three more;

Ipcelerate

Syn-Apps

Singlewire

As I say, this is just my 2 cent$ here Ray.

Cheers!

Assuming you want to have paging between the phones that are going to be registered to CME, yes.

Just found a post on this with your response Jaime, also found the CME integration guide.

I assume (at this point) that if I follow the integration guide....cucm will register cme....then the phones in the particalur department will register with that cme. I'll go read through the guide, and I'm sure I'll have a few more questions when done.

For now: would this integration work for wireless phones as well?

Thanks.

If you upgrade your system to CUCM 9.1 you will receive free Singlewire InformaCast basic paging solution:

Not that it helps you now, but something to think about.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your input on this, its always appreciated.

I had a meeting with my boss yesterday on this and after the fact it occurred to me what you just said. So excellent point indeed. I scanned the websites that have been provided so I will be checking those out.

Although I am still curious about the cme to cucm integration so if nothing else, I will probably set this up in a lab just to test it at some point.

Thanks!

(I'll hold the change joke)
