Hi

I would like to add add multiple new IP phones models 7821 and CP8821 to the CME on ISR 2921 router, But current IOS/CME version does not support these phone models (flash:c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.153-1.T.bin) , So I want to upgrade IOS on ISR 2921 router, I know that these series are EOL and no support from cisco. Which version IOS and CME should I upgrade to support these models. If it is CME 10.5 I need to upgrade to IOS 15.4.3M, Here is my question can I upgrade directly to 15.4.3 M from 15.3.1.T

If these phones are supported in CME on this platform it would be listed in the CME documentation. Recommend you to review it.

Yes.

The question is this:  Will upgrading the router IOS support 7821/8821?  No, because the router do not talk to those phones.  It is the CME/CUE inside that talks to the phones.  And unless the CME/CUE inside the router is upgraded, nothing will work.

The only way to get the 7821 to talk to an old CME/CUE version is to covert the phones to 3PCC/MPP.

For the 8821, I would not bother.  8821is a PoS.

@Leo Laohoo

Thanks for the reply,

So I can upgrade from 15.3.1T to 15.7.3M directly as well. CME versions are embedded with IOS,  So CME automatically upgrade with the IOS. If I upgrade to 15.7.3M CME becomes version 12.0. I hope phones 7821 and 8821 works with this CME version.

If the phones are supported in the CME version is listed in the CME documentation. Advise you to review it.

No.  CME is a totally separate component.  It is/will not "automatically upgrade".

@Leo Laohoo This is incorrect. CME is included in IOS.

Mea culpa.

Me confused with a different one.
