ISR G2 - SIP Trunk/CUBE Confusion

Hi all,

We are thinking of shortly upgrading to ISR G2 and are a little confused about the SIP Trunking capability on the new platform. We use SIP Trunks for all inbound and outbound calls. Obviously on the ISR G1, we just have the connection to our SIP IP pointed out through our ADSL HWIC. From what I'm reading, Cisco now requires you to license the capabity to use SIP trunks on G2 platforms? Can we setup SIP Trunking in our old method as mentioned, or if we are switching to ISR G2, does that mean we must absolutely purchase CUBE functionality (and anything else?) to have our inbound/outbound SIP Trunks running?

Nic.

Hi NIC,

You can refer the URL for CUBE

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6790/gatecont/ps5640/order_guide_c07_462222.html

You need to go for separate licenses.

Starting with a Router Platform

To order Cisco Unified Border Element starting with a platform, do the following:

Step 1. Select a platform from Table 1 or 2.

Step 2. Select a software image or package:

a. If you are ordering a Cisco 2900, 3900 or 3900E Series platform, select one or more software packages from Table 5. The Unified Communications package is required; the Security package is optional.

b. If you are ordering any other platform, select a software image from Table 1 or 2 that has the feature complement you require.

Step 3. Select a license from Table 3.

a. If the Cisco Unified Border Element license option is not shown as a choice as part of the system order, order the license separately as a spare.

Hi Aman,

Thank you for the quick reply - very helpful. Do I however absolutely need CUBE to run SIP Trunks on ISR G2 CUCME, or does CUBE meerly add extra functionality?

Thanks!

Nic.

Hi NIC,

I was just going through CUBE faq where in I found that for connecting CUCM to CUBE through SIP TRUNK, we do not require license.

In your case, you do not need CUBE for SIP Trunks on ISR G2 with CME.

CUBE provides added features .

This is what I understand. Please correct me if anyone has more idea on the same.

regds,

aman

You need a CUBE license to connect your CME to your ITSP using SIP. Please read more from the thread below
