Jabber Operation with inter/intradomain federation with Lync

Hi ,

I have setup Intradoman and interdomain federation with Lync which seems to be fine.However I have an operational issue with Jabber that I wanted to see if it was standard or something was wrong.

Scenario.
1.Open Jabber
2.In search field type in a few letters of name.
3.A list of users appear ( all lync users appear offline).
4.Click on add contact next to Lync user.
5.Lync user appears as contact and status now available.
6.Search again and user displays in list and with status.

The issue is that you need to add the user in Jabber as a contact before you can see there status.Is that normal?

Forgot to mention I have

Enable ad hoc presence subscriptions  enabled before anyone asks.Question is should it work for Intradomain/ Interdomain users.

It's as designed which isn't ideal , if anyone has come up with a workaround would be interested to hear
