Jabber support in SRST

Is Jabber in phone-only mode supported in SRST mode?

I know that this has been asked in some other threads as well, but has not been replied clearly.

In the SRST datasheet, a restriction, that the the Presence serve should be reachable, is mentioned. However, in case of WAN failure, the access to the Presence servers will also be lost.

However, in some of the documents (not from Cisco), it is mentioned, that the above mentioned restriction is not removed (E.g. - https://www.sunsetlearning.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Call-Manager-Express-v10-Updates.pdf )

- Do we have a Cisco document that confirms that this restriction is now removed?

- Is Jabber for Android and iOS not supported at all, in SRST?

- Assuming that the dependency on the presence server is removed, what changes will be needed in the DNS records , to enable Jabber to work in SRST?

Thanks!

Regards

Sheetanshu

Please see the Cisco official release note. This IM dependancy is been taken off from 10.5 release

Thanks!

- Is there a need to change the way DNS SRV records are configured, for CME to work as SRST for Jabber clients?

- If no, then will it work for the Jabber clients that were not logged in at the time SRST was triggered? I mean, will it work only for already logged in Jabber clients?

1) Below is the document

" From Cisco Unified CME-10.5 onwards, the phone-only mode of Cisco Jabber devices are also supported. For more information see the ”Cisco Jabber "
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/release/notes/CME_ReleaseNotes.html#pgfId-64548

2) Jabber for Android & iOS Is not supported at all in SRST.

3) You have to add the DNS Records in the SRST Router itself as shone in example below

For Cisco Jabber CSF client (version 12.1.0 and onwards) support, Unified CME 12.5 is configured as the DNS Server. The host machine of the Jabber client is configured to point to Unified CME that is configured as the DNS server. The following example shows how to configure Unified CME 12.5 and later versions as DNS Server to support the Cisco Jabber CSF client, Version 12.1.0 for Mac and Windows (Phone-only Mode):

enable
configure terminal
ip dns server
ip host _sip_tcp.cisco.com srv 0 1 5060 cme.cisco.com
ip host _sip_udp.cisco.com srv 0 1 5060 cme.cisco.com
ip host _sips_tcp.cisco.com srv 0 1 5060 cme.cisco.com
ip host _cisco-uds._tcp.cisco.com srv 0 1 8443 cme.cisco.com
ip host uds._tcp.cisco.com srv 0 1 8443 cme.cisco.com
ip host _collab-edge._tls.cisco.com srv 0 1 8443 cme.cisco.com
ip host cme.cisco.com 10.64.86.106 (Note: IP Address of Unified CME 12.5)
ip host _cisco-phone-http.tcp.cisco.com srv 0 1 8443 cme.cisco.com

Thanks Haris!

For point 3., it would work when we only have CME where the Jabber clients would register. For "The host machine of the Jabber client is configured to point to Unified CME that is configured as the DNS Server", there are a few challenges:-

a) In normal conditions, the SRV records (UDS) should point to the CUCM. It is only in the SRST condition that the Jabber should register with the CME.
b) Is it practical to point the host machine to CME as DNS server? In an enterprise, there is a lot of dependency on the DNS server. For the Jabber client machine to point to CME as DNS server, would mean that CME should contain all the DNS records that a normal DNS server would, to enable functioning of other applications as well, on the host machine? Or do we have a workaround for this?
