Licensing concerns when upgrading Publisher and Subscriber Hardware

Hey Cisco Community,

We going to start the process of upgrading our Call Manager servers from 7825 to 7835. We have a concern with the licensing though. As you know, the server licenses are tied to the MAC of the Publisher. So when we do the upgrade, the MAC of the Publisher will change. Does that mean a new license is required from Cisco? There's also the fact that 7825 supports 1,000 users while the 7835 supports 2,500. So wouldn't a new license be required for those two reasons?

If anyone has any experience with this type of scenario, please share your input. It would be greatly appreciated.

Cisco Licensing is very,very good about re-homing these licenses when required. Just send an email to with a copy of your

current license(s);

licensing@cisco.com

Something like this;

We currently have licenses tied to PAK xxxxxxxxxxx for our CUCM 5/6/7.x cluster. We have a License tied to MAC CCCDDDAAABBB and now require thelicense to be re-homed to our newly purchased server Publisher MAC AAABBBCCCDDDaccordingly.

Here is the pertinent info;

End User Name - Bobcat.com

Legal Address

City,Country

Original Purchase Order Number - 111111

Original Sales Order Number - 2222333

Bill to ID - xxxxx

Ship to ID - xxxxxxxxx

Hey Rob,

First off I want to say you are a great help as always! I am a big fan of your posts! Your answer here defintely makes sense.

We are also doing the same for Subscriber, so I assume I need a separate license for that too?

P.S. Too bad the Flames lost their season opener to the rival Oilers after a great pre-season. I hope they can make the playoffs. I don't think my Leafs will though

The poor 'Lames" .......it wasn't pretty, and to the Oilers no less......UGH!!

The leafs looked pretty good so you never know??

The Subscriber/Node license will be contained or referenced in the one license

that is tied to the Publisher/First Node, so you should be good to go.
