Hi Manzoor,

  • “Graceful” restart method indicates that the specified endpoints will be taken out-of- service after the specified delay.
  • “Forced” restart method indicates that the specified endpoints are taken abruptly out- of-service. The established connections, if any, are lost.
  • “Restart” method indicates that service will be restored on the endpoints after the specified “restart delay,”that is, the endpoints will be in-service. The endpoints are in their clean default state and there are no connections that are currently established on the endpoints.
  • “Disconnected” method indicates that the endpoint has become disconnected and is now trying to establish connectivity. The “restart delay” specifies the number of seconds the endpoint has been disconnected. Established connections are not affected.

The timer is enabled by the following command ( there is no recommended way but its always good to have the graceful option as it will avoid call drops )

mgcp restart-delay

To select the delay value sent in the Restart in Progress (RSIP) graceful teardown, use the mgcp restart-delay command in global configuration mode. To reset to the default, use the no form of this command.

mgcp restart-delay value

no mgcp restart-delay

Syntax Description

value

Restart delay value, in seconds. Range is 0 to 600. The default is 0.

Hi Manzoor,

This is the setting for the mgcp sgcp restart notify and the mgcp sgcp disconnected notify commands (ENABLED or DISABLED).The one on your system is Disabled.

What is the difference between forced and graceful. Could you please brief on that

Manish,

Could you please explain with an example.

Graceful” restart method indicates that the specified endpoints will be taken out-of- service after the specified delay?

Please consider  for me it is a new domain. :)

Basically a graceful restart waits for all active calls to clear normally ( like users hang up after the call is over ) and then does a restart, so it does not impact existing calls. However a forced restart will proceed irespective of any existing calls on the gateway and result in dropped calls.

Manish

Thank you,

What is the impact if below is enabled . and whre we mention the delay. Which is the recommend one
