Hi everyone ,

1-could some one help me with documentation or configuration of cucm to support miarec recording software?what are the steps needed ?

2-Also i read about span configuration on the switch ports,What if i have both CUCM and Miarec running on the Same CISCO UCS server,Inside ESXI,every one is installed on seprate VM,Is it possible to configure the switch port connected to the UCS server as the source and destination port for Span ?

Any documentation or configuration steps regarding cucm would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

You should reach the Miarec support for these questions, they should have validated their product works with CUCM, which releases and how to integrate both.

Ideally MiaREC should be part of Cisco Technology Parnters, and have validated their product with CUCM thorugh the IVT testing program. Then the product will have the Cisco Compatible Logo. You can check for this in Technology partner central.

Regarding the VMs I have seen multiple issues trying to get SPAN to work for a VM hosted recording app (for passive recording) this question you would have to raise it to Nexus Specialist. Also the Vswitch on the ESXI needs to be configured in a special way (promiscuos mode) for it to operate succesfully.

In case you are using voip passive recording (SPAN based), then no configuration is necessary on CUCM.

You only need to configure SPAN (port mirroring) on your network switch.

MiaRec software can be run on virtual machine (ESXi 4.1+).

See details here:

http://www.miarec.com/documentation/install-on-virtual-machine

You can even run MiaRec VM on the same host as CUCM but you need a dedicated network interface card (NIC) for MiaRec VM.

Once you have a dedicated NIC, login to ESXi host using vSphere Client.

Click "Configuration" tab and then "Networking" under "Hardware"

Create new Virtual Switch and assign a dedicated NIC to it

In the properties of this new Virtual Switch change "Promiscuous Mode" to "Accept".

When you create virtual machine for MiaRec, assign it to newly created Virtual Switch.

After that you need to configure port mirroring (SPAN) session on your network switch.

Voip traffic should be mirrored to NIC, which is assigned to MiaRec VM.

There are two options:

1) Mirror only IP Phones network traffic

2) Mirror CUCM traffc plus Voice Gateway traffic.

Both scenarios are described in details with network diagrams here:

http://www.miarec.com/knowledge/cisco-unified-communications-manager-call-recording

Note, mirroring of only CUCM port is not enough because CUCM usually handles only call signaling traffic (SIP, Skinny) while voice traffic (RTP) is sent directly between IP Phones and Voice Gateways.
