MOH doesn't work on hold. CUCM 11.5

Hi folks!

Faced following problem:

- after configuring MOH on CUCM server (did same configuration on both nodes) I tried to put caller on hold. On other end of line there is no music on hold played.

Configured MOH in this way:

1. Media Resources -> MOH Audio File Management -> uploaded file
2. Media Resources -> Music on Hold Audio Source -> added new moh source with next stream number

3. Media Resources -> Music on Hold Server -> already have activated IP Voice Media Streaming service in CU Serviceadbility, so just checked server parameters and set same Device Pool and Location values as for devices

4. Have selected MOH audio source for both device and line

Any try to restart, reconfigure and tune MOH servers - unsuccessfuly.

Did you have same sort of problem or at least you have an idea about how to fix MOH service?

Thanks in advance!

I am assuming that you configure MRG and MRGLs and assigned them
successfully. Remember that the device initiating the moh will select the
source file and the held device MRGL will select the MOH sever.

If all that is good, then check the following:

- try to use default moh source to see if audio is working and
eliminate music encoding problem
- from cucm server CLI or RTMT check to see if music server is allocated or
not during active music on hold
- check the region config between moh server and held device to see what
code is configured and make sure that this codec is enabled in cucm service
parameters for Media resources
- Ensure that music file is using the same codec
- If you are using mmoh, fallback to umoh to see if it works or not

Is there any difference for an internal call vs external call?

What if you just set the Default Audio Sample as the MOH and see if that plays? This is to validate the service vs the new audio file you uploaded.

Success!
Found both misconfuguration:

- MRGLs were different with different MOH assigned

- issue with audio file properties

For me that seems strange, isn't CUCM should just convert audio file to the proper format during upload process and being able to use it for MOH?

not necessary. You need to make sure that audio coding is correct (frequency, sampling, etc) for CUCM to convert it to the required codecs successfully.
