MWI 0 in three digit dial plan

Hi All:

I am struggling to get out MWI light to turn on for one of our phones. Currently we have a three digit dial plan. However - the person who set it up set the main phone up with extension 0 (this may be common?) - however all other phones have extensions of 123. In the config - it is set as follows:

ephone-dn 80

     number 8000...

     mwi on

ephone-dn 81

     number 8001...

     mwi off

So - obviously this works for the three digits - but not for the 0 extension.

I set up:

ephone-dn 82

     number 8000.

     mwi on

ephone-dn 83

     number 8001.

     mwi off

This seems to work - then randomly the MWI on all the phones in the building. Any suggestions on how to properly fix this (without changing the 0 extension)? I tried changing 8000. to 80000 and 8001. to 80010 - but that didn't work at all.

Do you think it is possible to change the number 0 to call-forward all 000? Meaning - so if someone dials 0 it will just forward it on to 000. I figured changing her extension made the most sense - but since it is the main phone it will be hard for people to change. Thanks for your response!

Hi Daren.

I agree with Leo (+5), that the best course of action would be to simply

change the Main phone to a 3-digit DN to comply with the CUE MWI

restrictions....and the users will adapt after some minor grumbling

But of course that's not always possible and this is where you would have to get

creative. Maybe you could leverage the "Secondary" DN button config in CME

to define both "0" and a 3-digit DN for the main phone......not sure, but it's worth a try.

What I ended up doing was:

number 000 secondary 0

call-forward noan 7000 timeout 24

and then changed the mailbox to from 0 to 000. Then if someone calls 0 it forwards it to 000. Works like a charm. Ultimately - changing the primary number to fit the dial plan was the solution.
