NTP Settings on Call Manager and Unity Connection?

Hello all,

I need to update the NTP settings on our Call Manager and our Unity Connection servers.  I know where to make the changes but my question is, Will I need to reboot or restart any services on either switch?

I have done this before but I can't remember if I needed to restart any services on Unity or Call Manager.  I think this should be a pretty straight forward update, just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Can you please let me know if you do?

Thank you.

Rgds,

Vicky

First of all what version are you as changing it may change your virtual MAC address and invalidate your licenses.

You will not need to restart anything.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Sorry I should have included that.  Our CUCM is on System version: 8.5.1.12900-7, Our Cisco Unity Connection version: 8.5.1ES92.14900-92.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

Rgds,

Vicky

Changing any of these values will invaldiate the license:

  • Time zone
  • NTP server 1 (or “none”)
  • NIC speed (or “auto”)
  • Hostname
  • IP Address
  • IP Mask
  • Gateway Address
  • Primary DNS
  • SMTP server (or “none”)
  • Certificate Information (Organization, Unit, Location, State, Country)

Hi Chris,

So I am guessing I will need to pull Cisco TAC in to have our licenses for the Call Manager and Unity Connection updated.

I will reach out to TAC.

Thank you.

Vicky

Yes, simply have Cisco re host the licenses.

This text can be found in the help file of both platforms:

Note     :

After deleting, modifying, or adding the NTP  server, you must restart all other nodes in the cluster for the changes  to take affect.

Hi Vicky,

I don't want to muddy the waters here, but in addition to the

great tips from Chris & Will (+5 guys) the "license" reference

requirement is only needed if you are running CUCM & CUC on a

virtual VMware build which I didn't see you mention.

Cheers!

Rob is absolutely correct as always, it's been so long since I did MCS server that I did not even think about it. Thanks Rob for clarifying (+5).

Hi All,

As it happens we are running on a VM ware platform so this post was extremely helpful since no one on my team knew we had to re-host the licenses with this little adjustment.

Thank you all again for your help here!

Have a great weekend.

Vicky
