Phone Log Server

In CUCM, on most phones, there's a configuration option for a Log Server. The ccmadmin help says nothing. The CUCM docs just say: "Specifies an IP address and port of a remote system where log messages are sent"

I entered the IP address of my syslog server, and the phone does try to contact it - but on port 4061, rather than the standard syslog port of 524. If the phone's defaulting to 4061, I'm guessing it's not syslog after all.

Exactly what is this phone logging server?

Thanks,

GTG

The Log Server field on an IP Phone is to write logs for the Peer to Peer Firmware sharing, it will not write the phone console logs to the specified server.

if this helps, please rate

Hi Gents I do have same situation, I have a VIP users with a 8865 thru MRA having short call duration issues where we need to collect phone console logs on the background, as the phone shows in CUCM the Expressway C Ip address we can't access, is the only option bother to the user for get the console phone logs or PRT via webpage? Many thanks in advance

As Java wrote the log server option on the phone will not collect the console logs. As you yourself wrote the option for this is to “bother” the user to collect the logs or do a PRT. If it’s a problem that affects the user negatively he or she should surely be interested in helping you out with this.
