How is a SIP phone registration process different from a SCCP phone?

4 Replies 4

Thanks Luis. I have a couple of questions here.

1. In the cucm page of a phone sometimes I see Boot Load and Active Load mentioned. I believe Active load is the current load(firmware) that the phone has, what is the Boot Load? Is this related to SCCP phone registration process 3?
2. Unlike SCCP can I say the SIP phones receive all the required information from the TFTP server itself?

Hi @sourajit01 ,

I tell you what I know:

1- boot load is the firmware located in the phone and active load is the firmware when it is already registered in the CUCM.

2- The phones of both protocols look for your TFTP server information and then register with the CUCM.

As I indicated, this is what I know about CUCM.

Regards

the tftp mechanisms that phones use both for sccp v sip are similar in the way that they use TFTP to download the config off cucm, EVERY time they boot up. the difference is mainly the way they signal. i suggest to SIP instead of Skinny anywhere you can
