Place a test call from a IP Phone in a remote location?

Hello All,

I was wondering if it's possible to remotely control a 7941 IP Phone either from a tool or from CallManager, in order to place a phone call.

CallManager version: 8.0.3

IP Phone Model: 7941G

I'm testing External Mask (*i.e. external Caller ID) on the phones in this remote location. When I configure a test phone where I am, using the exact same settings which are configured on the phone in the remote location and my test phone, I'm getting strange results.

We've alreay checked the SIP Gateway and removed any Translation Patterns which could possibly be changing this automatically, but still seeing strange stuff.

I wanted to try and see if maybe this is just User Error on their part, so I thought maybe I could take that out of the equation and do it myself remotely...?

When watching the "debug ccsip messages" on the gateway I can see the outbound ID is different when she calls from her phone and when I call from my test phone, which both have the same configuration and both are going through the same SIP Gateway. It looks like MY test phone is using the External Mask that I set, but when she does it, it's showing her extension instead...

Is it possible to remotely control this device?

Thanks in Advance,

Matt

You can, but ONLY with 3 party application.

Cisco doesnt have a "solution" for this.

Now if you just wish to see the screen, you can use this:

Hey Jose, thanks for the reply!

Humm... Ok, do you know what the 3rd party app is called?

The problem I was mentioning in my OP has been resolved, turns out it was the person in the remote location's Cell phone carrier, which iwas displaying her external mask wrong. Looks like Virgin Mobile has some issues with this...

But I'd still be interested in that app, it would be a cool debug tool to have at my disposal.

Thanks Again,

Matt

Matt,

we dont get much information about 3 party, and let me stress this enought. I am  NOT recommending this Software over any other for anything, I knew about quite few softwares than do this.

You could check out

https://www.voipintegration.com/Software/Phone-Remote/

its just one of the multiples options make sure you check at least few of them so you can pick what best meet your needs.

Hey Guys,

Thank you both for the examples, much appreciated!

I'll check them out...

Thanks AGAIN,

Matt

There is one more option to do this.

You can create a Jabber profile. In the end user page, associate the Jabber to the user and the MAC of the phone that you  want to control. After associating both the devices, login to the Jabber and then choose the option, Use Deskphone for calls and select the device.

This would make the calls through the Deskphone. You can use the URL http://<IP Address of the IP pone>/CGI/Screenshot, to view the status of the phone.

Only drawback of this is that you will not be able to hear the audio transmitted through the Jabber. But you can see the timer running on the Jabber as well as with the phone screenshot.
