Problems upgrading Cisco 8945 to firmware version 9.4.2

Hello, I have 8945 IP phones with firmware version 9.1.2 and I'm looking to upgrade to version 9.4.2, so I tried upgrading first to firmware version 9.1.2.SR-1 and 9.3.4, but always returns to 9.1.2 even if the Phone Load Name is configured with the desired file.

To what version do I have to upgrade to finally run version 9.4.2??

Regards,

Juan Carlos Arias

What environment are you on?  If you are on CUCM then make sure all of your Call Managers have the proper firmware and then specify the load or you can set it in Device Defaults so it is server wide.

Hello Brandon, the phones are located in a branch office and running CallManager version 10.5.1, I did all you said, I'm looking if there is some communication problem between both sites.

But based on my question, to upgrade firmware from 9.1.2 to version 9.4.2, have to upgrade first to 9.3.4 and then 9.4.2?

I rate your answer by mistake, sorry.

You have to step upgrade them and install the necessary device pack since they require that as well.  Below is a general indication of how to do things as it refers to a 9.4 firmware release.

Install Firmware on Cisco Unified Communications Manager

Before using the Cisco Unified IP Phone Firmware Release 9.4(1) with Cisco Unified Communications Manager, you must install the latest firmware on all Cisco Unified Communications Manager servers in the cluster.

Note

The Cisco IP Phone 8941 and 8945 support a new “secure by default” feature starting with Release 9.3(1). Before phones are upgraded to Firmware Release 9.3(1) or later, the Cisco Unified Communications Manager must have Device Pack 8.0.3(24049)/8.5.1(14070)/8.6.2(22030) or higher installed. The phones require this device pack. If the correct device pack is not installed first, the phones cannot successfully register to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

Attention:

Firmware Release 9.4(1) can be upgraded only from Release 9.3(4).

This is the events log on phone, the upgrade seems to success but after that there is some error messages.

Any ideas where to look at??

Hi Juan

Did you ever get a resolution to this ? I have the same problem on CUCM9.5 (so I don't think the device pack is an issue). I have 7 x 8945's stuck on 9.1(2). I have tried upgrading to 9.1(2)SR1 but the phone just goes back to 9.1(2). Similarly when I tried 9-3-1-19.

Thanks

Paul

Hello, We were trying to upgrade phone over the WAN and it was hitting bug CSCtq26220, so we upgrade phone to version 9.3.4 locally with a third party TFTP server.

Hi Juan Carlos.

These phones are in Singapore over the WAN so yes I'll try a remote TFTP.

Many thanks for getting back.
