When you have a 1 Gbps line and want to use the full bandwidth (let's assume that the SP is letting me) - what do you set your shape value to?
1) In my experience, if you don't configure a shape value under the parent policy, you get an error when trying to apply the policy to the interface.
"Cannot attach queuing-based child policy to a non-queuing based class"
My understanding of this is that you need a queue fot CBWF policy.
Can someone confirm if you need a shape value or if there is a way around the above error?
2)
So, assuming you do need a shape average statement, what value will the shape average statement have?
- 1 Gbps is the physical line rate - you would have to take Layer 2 overhead into consideration, right?
- QoS here is Layer 3, so what I specify here will be in reference to Layer 3 traffic (to which the layer 2 overhead would be added).
What kbps value would you think is appropriate? (again you can use the full bandwidth of the 1 Gbps line)
3) I can specify shape average either in kbps or percent.
The percent value ranges up to 100%
-------------------------------------
(config-pmap-c)#shape average ?
percent % of interface bandwidth for Committed information rate
-----------------------------------
Can I specify 100%?
What effect would it have on layer 2 stuff if I do?
Thank you.
