Register Cisco 7821 to voip.ms using SIP

Hello everyone,

I am trying to register my 7821 phone to voip.ms. I haven't had any success so far in doing this or even registering it to a local Asterisk server. Attached below is my SEP XML file. The phone seems to be grabbing files from the TFTP server, including the SEP file, so this seems to just be a configuration problem. The file I uploaded has .txt extension, but this is just so the website will allow me to upload it, and the real one is .cnf.xml.

So far, I have tried following the info in this thread as well as this one, with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Emanuel

Is the phone getting a valid IP address?

Yes, the phone is getting an IP through DHCP, and it is correctly getting the TFTP server's IP through the DHCP options.

Settings > Status > Status Messages
What information are there?

Re: Register Cisco 7821 to voip.ms using SIP

It first says "No trust list installed". Then it reads the config file name. Then it says "Error verifying config info"

That means the config is incorrect.

<proxy>tampa1.voip.ms</proxy>

That's incorrect.  Change that to "USECALLMANAGER".

<sipProxies>
        <backupProxy>USECALLMANAGER</backupProxy>
        <backupProxyPort>5060</backupProxyPort>
        <emergencyProxy>USECALLMANAGER</emergencyProxy>
        <emergencyProxyPort>5060</emergencyProxyPort>
        <outboundProxy></outboundProxy>
        <outboundProxyPort></outboundProxyPort>
        <registerWithProxy>true</registerWithProxy>
</sipProxies>

Update the config with these settings, factory-default the phone and try again.

Pay close attention to the status messages appearing.  Messages about "TLV" and certificates can be ignored.

So I updated the settings like you directed, and changed the proxies from tampa1.voip.ms to USECALLMANAGER. I did a keypad reset and then looked for messages. This time I noticed the first message says "service mode change: enterprise" and then proceeds to give me the same 3 messages as before.

Does the voice provider support ALG?
Does the voice provider support NAT?

Re: Register Cisco 7821 to voip.ms using SIP

The voip.ms wiki says to turn off ALG in router settings, so I assume this
means it does not support it. I believe it does work behind NAT though. I
have also been trying to register to a local PBX with the same
configuration with no success.

Re: Register Cisco 7821 to voip.ms using SIP

I'd rather do the easy bit and troubleshoot the registration between the phone and the local PBX server.
Make those changes, factory default the phone and try again.

It gave the same status messages as before.

THIS is a known working config for an 8900 phone.   I recommend you use this version.

Re: Register Cisco 7821 to voip.ms using SIP

With this version, I now have two new status messages. "Error updating user locale" and "Error updating network locale". Below is a list of all the files the phone is requesting, however most of them I do not have.

CTLSEP204C9EB22839.tlv
ITLSEP204C9EB22839.tlv
ITLFile.tlv

SEP204C9EB22839.cnf.xml
sp-sip.jar
g3-tones.xml

dialplan.xml

As you mentioned, the tlv and jar files are nothing to worry about, but does g3-tones.xml have anything to do with the issue?

Ignore.

WTF.  Why did the phone NOT download these two files???

Beginner

Re: Register Cisco 7821 to voip.ms using SIP

No, it did download those files. The list was just all of the files it
requested. I just don't have all of them, but apparently they don't matter.
