Hello,
I have 2 MCS7825 I4 with CUCM 8.03. one is publisher and another is subscriber. Yesterday the publisher cli shows this error :
EXT3-fs error (device sda6) in start_transaction: Journal has aborted. I use the system recovery DVD to check the filesystem. After that theres no error for just a few hours before it happens again. And again I did the same thing. But now theres a new error which is.

Hey Fauzan,
I would recommend you to open a TAC case with the Hardware team and have them look into the hardware report to find out the error. Change the hard-drive if Cisco TAC recommends you to do.
Thanks

Hey Fauzan,
This is a known bug on the CUCM.
Running the recovery cd is just a workaround. The fix to this issue, we need to take the DRS backup and then do the fresh install to permanently fix the issue.
The error indicates that the service manager on the publosher is down. Can you goto cli of CUCM and do "utils service list" and check if service manager is down.
Also if possible, paste the output of this command here.
Thanks

Thanks Mudit,
commands 'utils service list' gives 'the service manager is not running'. While 'utils service restart' gives message, abort starting up service, configuration is invalid. did I need to shutdown the subsriber too before do the fresh install on publisher? Again, many thanks for your help.
Thanks,
Fauzan

Hey Fauzan,
Did you try restarting the Publisher after you run the password recovery ?
Also, you dnt need to shut down the subscriber if you are rebuilding your pub. Make sure you take the proper backup and then rebuild the server.
If you are stuck, just let me know..!!
Cheers.

Mundit: I did the fresh install. But i din't do any backup before. Actually I'm in the middle of configuring the phones and voicemail. So I have to add all the phones backs. T_T. Hopefully the error is fixed permanently.
dijohn: All of the sysmptoms stated in the link shows up. But 'show hardware' command shows that the firmware is the latest 3B06. I dint apply any patch before.
I let you know if the same error occur again. Thanks!

The problem occur again today. Now I'm trying to apply the first patch. I have checked and fixed the error of filesystem by running the recovery CD. The next step in the installation instruction is to verify the "volume state" is "okay" or "optimal".
The output from 'show hardware command'

The status is Resync, so i need to wait until "Okay". BTW I also noticed that the firmware is the latest 3B06, did I still need to upgrade the firmware? And why are the serial number of one of the device is ZKñ®ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½i& ?

also when I try to install the CUCM again, theres an error on hardware configuration (device sda) after the media check process and select the. Theres two option which are 'cancel installation' or 'continue'. I have to change the harddisk?

Hey Fauzan,
I would recommend you to open a TAC case with the Hardware team and have them look into the hardware report to find out the error. Change the hard-drive if Cisco TAC recommends you to do.
Thanks
