SIP Configuration 8945

I have a Cisco 8945 IP Phone with SCCP firmware. I like to convert it to SIP firmware. I don't have Call Manager but TFTP loaded with SIP firmware for the 8945.

I tried to reset the phone to boot up and connect to TFTP server but it keeps coming backup with SCCP load.

Unike the 7900 series it seems its almost impossible to erase the SCCP firmware and load SIP.

Does anyone have the methodology of converting the SCCP phone to SIP?

You will need the following: 

1.  SEPmacaddress.cnf.xml; 

2.  TFP server; 

3.  SIP firmware; and

4.  DHCP Option 150

Thank you for your answer. I have been doing all these exact steps.

The problem is the phone must be erased at some point of the sccp firmware. When doing so with the  7900 series, once you unlock the phone and ask it to reset / erase it does so by holding down # and then 123456789*0#. After that it reboots and looks at the tftp server and pulls the right cnf.xml file and boots. However you seem not to be able to follow the same procedure with 8900 series and no matter how you reset the phone it still tries to pull SEP files from TFTP.  So I guess we need to figure out what is the correct way to reset the phone to have it boot as SIP requesting SIPxxxxx.cnf files. I hope that is clear.

Look at the Status > All Status for any error messages. 

I am suspecting the SEPmacaddress.cnf.xml file has been rejected.  If one like is coughs up an error, the entire file is rejected.

The status shows very little information. It shows 

[00:00:10, 01/01/2010] system boot up (SCCP 9-1-2-00)
[17:59:22, 02/18/2017] SEP00077ddfd5c2.domain.com Get ip from DHCP server : 10.0.21.147

I don't know why it appends the domain to the SEP file name. It definitely not looking for SIP and looking for a SEP file. I made a copy of the SIP file and named it as above but it still did not grab it

And it's the wrong filename.  So this means the phone isn't even attempting to get the SEPmacaddress.cnf.xml file from the TFTP server.  

Look at the TFTP server.  See if the phone can "see" the TFTP server and make any attempt(s) to download any file(s).

Stops after loading SIP894x.9-4-2SR3-1.bin2.sgn 

Download the complete ZIP file from the Cisco download website again.  Make sure you compare the MD5 hash value of the file against the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website to ensure the file downloaded is complete (and not corrupted). 

Once this is done, factory-default the phone and see if the conversion to SIP has improved.

Looks like there were two problems. One is the fact that you cannot just jump from the 9.2 load to 9.4. The other is that the phone is quite sensitive and cannot be updated from the remote TFTP server and you can have packets loss that interrupts the upgrade. So I was able to setup a TFTP server on my laptop and update the phone to version SIP 9.2. Now I am upgrading from that to 9.3 and eventually 9.4 latest load. The load would fail if I tried to go directly from SCCP to Sip latest version. Will keep you posted.
