SIP TRUNK CONVERSION

We currently have a sites using Alcatel PBX`s (Only support E1 connections) .

Our service provider only offer SIP trunks, but we don't want change the PBX.

What we are looking at doing is connect the SIP trunk (30 channel) to a C2901-CME-SRST/K9_SIP10 and transform to a E1 PRI to connect it the PBX.

The questions ares:

1. Need other tipe of licensing? (Because its SIP10, but we seen configurations with more channels than licensing)

2. The cube licensing its mandatory to configure a SIP trunk?

3. The provider brings a SBC, we need a CUBE?

4. Something to keep in mind for prosible problems, misfunctionality or risks?

very thankful for your help

1 and 2: Yes you need to own CUBE licensing to connect via SIP to carrier. The CUBE licenses are RTU paper licenses that do not get applied to anything at this point.

3: Your CME can serve as CUBE, so no need for separate router

4: Important things to consider: faxing protocol (T38 vs. passthrough), DTMF method, default codec (may require transcoders depending on call flows).

Thanks Chris.

One more question: our provider SIP trunk is in G.711A, if the PRI Trunk is G711A; In that order, the DSP resources aren't needed?

You should not need any DSPs as long as the codec profile includes the codecs and end devices can understand it.

Jesus,

you might also want to considering if you are going to use media flow through or flow around on your CUBE (if you have a choice at all). and how many DSP's you need to potential transcoding
