Telneting from cucm 7.x

I am troublehsooting a simple call scenario ; CCM ---h.323---GW--PRI.

Incoming calls were failing from PRI to CCM.  I tried to telnet from the Gateway to CCM on port 1720 to see if CCM is listening on that port.

ciscogw#telnet ciscoccm 1720
Trying ciscoccm, 1720 ... Open

[Connection to ciscoccm closed by foreign host]
ciscogw#

This gateway is at remote site and connected to central site via MPLS network.

Is there any way I can test similar connection from CCM to gateway ?.

Not directly. You could set up a route pattern to the gateway in CUCM and then place a call from a phone to the gateway. In parrallel, you can run a network trace on CUCM to see the actual conversation (or lack thereof) between the CUCM and the voice gateway.

You can initiate a trace from the CLI of the CUCM system and you can filter on the IP address of the voice gateway:

admin: utils network capture file mygwtrace count 100000 size all host ip

A small write up I did on the process:

Anyway, the point is that using a network trace to monitor connections between the GW and the CUCM is probably a more useful and informative approach.
