Third Party Device with More than 8 lines?

Hello all,

I have been asked to produce a third-party (PC-based) device that registers 48 lines with the CUCM. Previous discussions that I have found here quickly devolved to "You don't really need that many", but for this discussion I would prefer not to go there. 

Right now, we are only able to register an "Advanced third-party" SIP device with 8 lines. In order to provide an estimate for the work, I have to understand what my options are. 

I have been told that a COP file is required to accomplish this. 

- Is this true?

- If the only goal is to add support for 48 lines:

      - Are there any other options besides a COP file?

      - How involved is creating the COP file? Is it a day, a week, a month, or a year? :)

- What else should I know about, or look out for? 

- Are there Partners/Consultants/etc. that could do this work more efficiently?

I haven't heard anything about a COP file to enable that, and COP files HAVE to be signed by Cisco, this is not something you can do by yourself. You cannot install anything in your server which has not been signed by Cisco.

AFAIK that's a system limitation and you cannot change that, as that is a fixed value.

How do other products do it then? I know that there are products out there with more than 8 lines...What are the options to get that many lines?

I understand that any COP file would have to go through Cisco for certification & signature. Right now I'm just trying to get a feel for the development size to do it. (And if it can be done at all)

I cannot tell you how other products do it, I can only tell you how it works with CUCM, and the limit was set at 8.

I suggest you engage your SE/AM for this particular request as this would require the input from the BU and developers.
