Transcoding Requirments

Hi all,

Could you please share, in which all cases a transcoder resource is required ?

I know only about the two instances as below.

1) G729 call from CUCM to Unity connection, as Unity connection only supports G.711

2) CUBE environment,

I would appreciate your comments on the above.

You'll need a transcoder in any situation in which you have a codec mismatch and one side cannot negotiate usable on the other side.  Other examples include a CUE Module with G729 across the WAN, UCCX with G729 across the WAN, etc.

You will need a transcoder in cases whereever there are two call legs of different Codecs and Compression and Call Manager looks for a device to patch these two call legs.

Transcoder is a precious resource and is to be used Judiciously.
