Can anybody please help me with an upgrade question.
I have client running version 220.127.116.1105-1
They wish to upgrade to version 7.1 and have ordered the relevant upgrade from cisco, i am wondering how the compatability matrix works, all the mentioned 5.1 releases refer to ver 5.1 (3a) , 5.1(3b) etc, how does this relate to the software i have above 18.104.22.16805-1.
Also i see in another post somebody mentioned that you require the full install disks from the 7.1 load to upgrade from version 5.1 is this true, can i not use the ISO files ?
Hope all is well
This version is an Engineering Special based on 5.1(3d) I believe, it shows up in
the Downloads area on CCO as 5.1(3.5101.1).
You will require the Install Media to perform this upgrade as the .iso files
won't do the trick here. You should receive them as part of the upgrade order.
There are no fresh install files available to download, they're just for specific upgrade paths. Fresh install requires you to order the media.
You can order the upgrade kit via the PUT.
You're running a ES that is based on 5.1(3d)

Thanks for the post, so the version i have is a version of the 22.214.171.12400 train, does it mention the 3d bit when you go into the release notes. I'm still confused about the upgrade bit, we have the media as part of the upgrade kit, i thought media was for a fresh install ? are you saying i also use the media for an upgrade also ?
Rob just to confirm you also saying the ISo files cannot be used for upgrade ?
You definitely need the Upgrade media for this type of migration. The .iso
files are only for a qualified 7.x to 7.x upgrade.
You will see this in the proper 7.x release notes. I will try to find the reference
later, as I am on my way to another meeting
Sorry to be a pain, might be a simple question this one. Is the
upgrade media and new install media the same thing or are they
different ? I think this is were I am getting confused, I do now
understand the iso bit in version upgrade thanks for clearing this up.

Not a pain at all my friend
This is the same media, it can be used for upgrades from compatible
versions as well as "new builds". It's just a terminology thing.
Be careful if you are going to 7.1(3) and make sure to add the latest updates.
