Unable to add 7925G phone to CCM version 7.0.1

Hi,

I am trying to add a Cisco 7925G phone to Call Manager version 7.0.1 and when I try to add a new phone, this device type does not show up. I have downloaded the latest phone load to the call manager (cmterm-7925-sccp.1-4-2.cop.sgn) and restarted the TFTP services on the servers and still I can't add it. Do I need to reboot the cluster to be able to add this type of phone. Is this phone supported in the version of Call Manager?

Thanks,

Derek

You will need to install a device pack for your CUCM that includes this phone.

Hi Derek,

+5 to Chris for his great tips here, I'll just add another reference

The early 7.0 versions of CUCM did not include the 7925 IP Phone model. To

add a new model of IP Phone you do need to install the full Device Pack

rather than just the Firmware. You will be looking at something like;

Cisco Unified CallManager Device Package 7.0.1 (21014-1)

For 7.0(1)

Here is the method;

Installation Instructions

  • Note: Cisco recommends that you apply this Device Package during a maintenance window.
  • Note: Device Packages are installed on the active partition and cannot be uninstalled, a DRS backup before the install is highly recommended. Details of how to take a proper backup can be found in the Disaster Recovery Guide for each version of CUCM..

Procedure

Note: Apply this patch to all of your Cisco Unified Communications Manager servers, beginning with the publisher server and TFTP server.

When applying this Device Package to enable new device support, a cluster-wide reboot is required for those devices to register successfully.   A clusterwide reboot IS NOT required when running to update existing firmware/support.

For Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.0, you must do all software installations and upgrades by using the Software Upgrades menu options. The system can upload and process only software that Cisco Systems approved. You cannot install or use third-party or Windows-based software applications that you may have been using with a previous version of Cisco Unified Communications Manager with Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.0.

  1. Using your web      browser, login to the Cisco Unified Communications Operating System      Administration web page
  2. Under the Software      Upgrades menu, select Install/Upgrade.
  3. Fill in the      appropriate values in the Software Location section for the file      you downloaded above, and click Next.
  4. In the Available      Software drop-down box, select the file you downloaded above, and      click Next.
  5. After      validating the MD5 has the correct value, click Next.
  6. In the Warning      box, verify you have selected the correct firmware, then click Install.
  7. Check that you      received a Success message.

  • Note: In order to change the loads manually, you do NOT need to reinstall this Device Package. The new files will be present in the TFTP folder. Go to CCMAdmin->Device->Device Settings->Device Defaults and manually change the name of the load file (for specific device(s)) to the new load and click UPDATE.

Note: If you are rebooting the cluster, the next step does not need to be done.

The Cisco TFTP service now must be stopped and restarted on the TFTP server, then reset the affected devices for them to upgrade to the new load.
