Upgrade cisco phone for 3rd Party Call Control

Hi dear Cisco Support

Recently we bought cisco 7821 phones, and we need register them to Asterisk server. Acording to this we think that we need to use the new firmware that Cisco release for 3rd Party Call Control. In the Cisco documentation cisco says:

Step 1   Download the zip files.

Example: cp-78xx-sip.10-3-1-11-3PCC.zip
Step 2   Unzip the files.
Step 3   Put the files on the tftp/http/https download directory.
Step 4   Configure the Upgrade Rule on the Provisioning tab in the web page with the valid URL. The format is:

http://<phone_ip>/admin/upgrade?<schema>://<serv_ip[:port]>/filepath

The third-party call control can also upgrade via a URL in the web browser:

http://<phone_ip>/admin/upgrade?<schema>://<serv_ip[:port]>/filepath

Note

The loads file is put in the file path of the above url. The zip file contains other file types also. Only loads file is used in the above URL.

we need that you help us explaining  what means ‘‘Configure the Upgrade Rule on the Provisioning tab in the web page with the valid URL‘‘,  we do not know where is the Provisioned tab (this configuration is through the Call Manager Administration Web Managment Interface). How we can do this procedure. Also we don‘t understand why we must include the phone‘s ip address and ‘‘schema‘‘ option.

Actually we have created a XMLDefault.cnf.xml file and put in  the loadinformation sintax for instruct the phone to upgrade. This file is on the tftp sever but the proccess does not complete.

the URL with the procedure that Cisco describe the procedure is: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7800-series/3pcc/english/release-notes/PA2D_BK_7C8E9902_00_7800-series-3pcc-rn-1031.html

we appreciate your help

Best regards

You can refer to the following link which mentions about Provisioning and upgrading the firmware:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7800-series/3pcc/english/provisioning-guide/provision/scripting.html#pgfId-1219830

The easiest option would be to upgrade the firmware by opening the URL via web browser:

http://192.168.1.100/admin/upgrade?tftp://192.168.1.200/<filepath>

where 192.168.1.100 is the IP Address of IP Phone and 192.168.1.200 is the IP address of TFTP server.

Hi Shashank

we appreciate your answer, I have tried wtih the URL (http://192.168.100.2/admin/upgrade?tftp://192.168.100.1/sip78xx.10-3-1-11-3PCC.loads, where phone ip address is 192.168.100.2 and tftp ip address is 192.168.100.1.) but we got the following error message:

The requested URL was not found on the web server.

we have enable web access to the phone from Call Manager, uncomprised the files on put them into the tftp server, but looks like we are wrong in some step in  the procedure. Can you explain us in more detail, what are the prerrequisites before try use the URL from the browser.

Really we appreciate your help

Best regards

Are you using Cisco 7821 which is currently on Enterprise firmware registered to CUCM and want to install Third Party Call Control firmware on it?

Just for your information, it's not possible to move from Enterprise firmware to 3PCC firmware.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7800-series/3pcc/english/release-notes/PA2D_BK_7C8E9902_00_7800-series-3pcc-rn-1031.html#task_F498FAF5A42BC77BB04851885DCF3B97

There is a separate SKU for 7821 IP Phone for Third Party Call Control, CP-7821-3PCC-K9=

You can upgrade from Third-Party Call Control to Enterprise Firmware but after you upgrade to the Enterprise Firmware, you cannot revert to the Third-Party call control firmware.

Hi did you get a solution to this ? am stuck at the same place?

Please DO NOT USE the "3PCC" file.

Download the ordinary SIP file (ZIP file).

Is DHCP Option 150 configured yet?

Hi Leo

thanks for your answer. We have configured option 150 on DHCP, to indicate phone who is the TFTP server. Can you explain in more detail, what means download the ordinary SIP file.

Thanks much for your help

what means download the ordinary SIP file.

Avoid using the 3PCC.  Just use the same SIP file used by CUCM.  It will work.

I have 8841 IP Phone. I would like to connect to Asterisk. Could someone help to get the IP Phone get connected to Asterisk. Do i need to follow the same procedure by this link,

http://192.168.1.100/admin/upgrade?tftp://192.168.1.200/<filepath>

where 192.168.1.100 is the IP Address of IP Phone and 192.168.1.200 is the IP address of TFTP server.

I have the 3PCC file downloaded from this link - https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=286255327&reltype=latest&relind=AVAILABLE&dwnld=true&softwareid=282074288&os=&i=!pp&rellifecycle=&atcFlag=N&release=10.4(1)%203rd%20Party&dwldImageGuid=CCB12F9F054FF96A0AD21C773A3C29122B5318E0

Anything else more I have to do.

Thanks.

Words of Warning:  DO NOT USE 3PCC for Asterisk integration.

Can you please suggest where to download the sip firmware to work with 8841 IP phones along with Asterisk.

Thanks in advance .

Go HERE.

Please don't forget to rate our useful posts.

So all I have to put the firmware only zip file in tftp directory and boot the phone with tftp enabled in the phone.

Correct me if am wrong.

Thanks.

I have to put the firmware only zip file in tftp directory

The phone cannot read ZIP file.  The files inside the ZIP file needs to be extracted FIRST into the default TFTP folder.

boot the phone with tftp enabled in the phone

Is the IP address of the TFTP server specified in DHCP Option 150?

And where is the SEPmacaddress.xml.cnf file?

Please don't forget to rate our useful posts.

Still yet to specify the setup. and the SEPMAC file have to configure.

Will work by tomorrow and will update here

Thanks.
