Hello,

I want to upgrade for virtualisation reasons and I was hoping to get more insight into upgrade,

  • •1.       Upgrade existing production CUCM 7.1 to 8.0 and take a backup on MCS server.
  • •2.       Switch partition for business continuity
  • •3.       Install Hypervisoron new UCS
  • •4.       Create virtual machine for publisher on UCS2
  • •5.       Create virtual machine for subscriber 1 on UCS2
  • •6.       Create virtual machine for subscriber 2 on UCS1
  • •7.       Install CUCM 8.0 on UCS and restore database
  • •8.       Shut down existing production server
  • •9.       Upgrade UCCX JTAPI
  • •10.     Upgrade TSP on both unity servers
  • •11.     Later, upgrade the servers to CUCM 8.5 one by one.
  • •12.     Upgrade UCCX JTAPI

13    Upgrade TSP on both unity servers

Is this the right way? I have got different procedure and want to make sure I follow best one.

Can anyone please help

What is step 2 for?  Makes no sense to me.

Steps 9 and 10 need to be performed after step 1.

Steps 7 and 8 have to be reversed as your servers will have the same hostname and IP address and if both are running at the same time you will create conflict

Don't forget licensing for going to version 8 on MCS and then new licenses for UCS.

HTH,

Chris

Step 2 is since MCS CUCM servers would continue working till I upgrade because my MCS servers do not support 8.0

I also saw few folks took a backup of 7.1 cucm and installed on UCS server (although not suported) and then did a direct 8.5 upgrade.

Would this be faster and easier to follow?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

Yes it would be faster and easier. But keep in mind it is not supported process and be ready with the new licenses for UCS server.
