Upgrade to CUCM 8.x

Hi,

I want to upgrades a cluster of MCS7835H2-K9-CMC1 (1 CUCM publisher, 1 CUCM Subscriber) from version 7.0.1 (7.0.1.11000-2) to 8.x in a productions environments.

In a lab environment (VMware ESX 3.5), I tried to upgrade CUCM Publisher from version 7.0.1 to 7.1.2 but without success (the screen stuck in some phases of installation process).

What is the recommended path to upgrade from 7.0.1  to 8.x ?

It’s possible to make  a direct upgrade?

To make a major software upgrade from version 7.x to version 8.x , It’s sufficient if I have  on ESW contract for software licences?

Thanks.

Switch either via CLi using

utils system switch-version

Or under the OS where you did the upgrade.

Switch PUB, wait until it fully comes up and then start switching SUBs one at a time.

Yes, if the CUCM version has a newer FW version unless you configure it otherwise they'll upgrade

You can review the upgrade paths depending on what version you want here:

I read this documents.

I have a CUCM Cluster version 7.0.1 , 1 Publisher, 1 Subscriber.

I start the upgrade procedure to version 7.1.2 on both servers.

This is the situation right now  on both servers:

7.0.1 active version
7.1.2 inactive  version

I want to switch the version 7.0.1 to version  7.1.2.
What is the correct procedure on the cluster to boot to new version 7.1.2?

If i switch the version 7.0.1 to new version 7.1.2  the cisco phone reboots and upgrades to new version?

Thanks.

Please clarify for me this aspect.

How to make a major software upgrade from version 7.x to version 8.x ?

It’s sufficient if I have  on ESW contract for software licences?

What is the procedure?

Thanks.

If you've done one upgrade on Linux appliances you've pretty much done them all. They're all the same procedure.

The same you did from 7.0(1) to 7.1(2) is when doing any major/minor upgrade.

But, i need a software feature licence ordered via PUT?

The ESW contract cover this or i need UCSS?

For major release upgrades (7 to 8) you will need UCSS as you will need to request a new license through PUT. This is true for all major relaese upgrades. ESW on its own will only get you minor release upgrades.
