I've been asked to do some research in to installing a Cisco VG 310. I wanted to see if anyone on the support forums have installed one before. I did some poking around, and configured a mock one in my home lab. It looks like its really just a basic voice gateway (router) with a ton of FXS ports. It looks like its best to just set it up as an MGCP gateway, and then configure your ports as you would any other FXS port in CUCM. Is that correct, or am I missing something?

Hi John
As far as I know, the Supplementary Services are much better served with the SCCP in VG3XX or VG2XX GWs.
So, in essence, it will be best if you can configured the GW in SCCP mode

Yes its got lot of fxs ports but it does support TDM and other protocols as well apart from MGCP, Refer:

Just wanted to follow up. I installed the VG310 at a client site yesterday. It was pretty seamless. I did a "sho int g0/0" to get the mac address, and added it to CUCM with a SCCP integration. Once adding a couple commands at the interface, and adding the interface to CUCM it came right up. It was much easier than I anticipated, and worked well. I was able to get a 10 page fax in without any issue, and the client uses SIP trunks.
