VG224 SIP Trunking, Licensing/CME requirements

Hello,

I have a deployment where I want a set of analog phones to ring 1:1 with an Internet based SIP provider.  I was originally thinking VG224 + CME on a 2911 router, and CUBE licenses.  But, I don't need any features of CME; no call routing, no voicemail, no anything.  I just want to pick up the phone and dial a number, or to have that phone ring when its DID is dialed.

Can I configure a VG224 in SIP mode, and have it register to an external non-cisco server?  If so, do I still need the CUBE licensing for SIP trunking functionality?  I would like to use G729 for bandwidth reasons, and my provider supports it.

Thank you for any information.

Ray

Hi Ray,

I'm not sure about the VG224 (SIP) registering to another call agent other than Call Manager, however, you will need the CUBE licensing for the connection to your provider no matter what you set up.  It also depends on the code version you are planning to run; the CUBE licensing can be right-to-use based licensing.  You can specify the G729 codec on your dial-peers outbound to your provider (as long as they support it), and it should work fine.

That is not correct. A standalone VG224, or whatever use you make of it, does not need any additional licensing.
