Voice Gateway Dual Homing

Hello,

  We want to dual home our voice gateway router to two 6500s in VSS configuration. Is it best to create two small subnets to routed interfaces on the cores and let EIGRP take care of the redundancy and load balancing? I would register the gateway to the Call Manager via a loopback address. Any better ideas would be appreciated.

Thre is no need to create two subnets, you can use a BVI configuration.

I think there are examples in the forum if you search.

Everyone will have their own preferences here. Mine is to create two /30 subnets, one per Ethernet interface, and bind all of the processes to a loopback. You can tweak the cost of one link a smidge higher than the other to avoid round-robin of packets and EIGRP can take care of failing over when needed.

I think the BVI methods has the advantage of being able to be used consistently, that is you can use it on models like VG224 where routing protocols have been removed. So your dual-home VGs would all be using a same setup.
