voice network design

I have a customer using separate voice and data networks using separate VRFs and firewalls. the customer now needs to implement soft phones on the data network

Does any one have any design best practices for this? i.e qos, route leaking etc how do people achieve a secure design?

I've seen this a couple of times in the past, and I love listening to "explanations" of why VRFs were used to isolate voice and data You definitely could use static routes (can't do it dynamically) to leak traffic between VRFs, but why not just get rid of VRFs, or is it a major redesign?
