Hi,

If your company offices are connected using IP network, then it is legal to use VoIP calls between the offices in India. The calls must be internal (extension-to-extension) calls over IP network and must not cross PSTN. TRAI regulates that IP to PSTN calls are not allowed as long as it bypass the toll otherwise it's allowed.

Dear Vaijanath

Thank you for your reply. This is helpful. Can you please help me the following as well:

  • If the company has offices in different countries, let's say London, Singapore and Chennai, can they get SIP connectivity from the local service provider in India and then use VoIP calls between the offices in Chennai, Singapore and London (the calls are internal (extension-to-extension) calls over IP network and not crossing into PSTN). Is this allowed?
  • If the Chennai office also wants to connect to PSTN locally in India, can they have logical partitioning in their IP-PBX for PSTN and internal IP network, so that these 2 connections are separate and do not connect to each other? Is this allowed?

Please advise.

Regards
