You should look at documentation or the system and version you're using. In general, SCCP works better, has more features, and should be preferred.

As mentioned above you should look more specifically for your version, but this link will get you part way there:

Hmm, beg to disagree here. (Sorry for being late to the party)
Back in the days of CUCM 5 & 6, I'd agree with you: SCCP was better than SIP. Nowadays, on CUCM 8, I'm only aware of one difference between SIP & SCCP: The SIP Image doesn't support the phone VPN feature.
Otherwise, I believe they're the same.
As to "works better": On my system, I've not noticed any difference in reliability between SIP & SCCP phones. They both "just work" - exactly what I want.
Longer term, I believe Cisco's direction is that SIP will eventually become the primary protocol for phones. Look at some of the newer phones coming out: SIP first, SCCP coming along later on - if at all.

Thanks Rob (+5)!
I was just looking for this today, but also interested in the older phones (7940 and 7960). I am trying to understand what features would not work in the older phone sets already existing on site after an upgrade of CUCM to 8.6.
I tried to step backwards from this link to see the root, but didnt get far ;-)
