What type of card for a NEC CCIS circuit?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knew what type of card would be required for a Cisco 2921 to emulate a point to point T1 using CCIS coming from the NEC 2000?

Thanks,

Matt

VWIC3-1MFT-T1/E1 and PVDM3 modules.

We have 2921 ISR with a VWIC3-1MFT-T1/E1 - 1-Port RJ-48 Multiflex Trunk - T1/E1 and

32-channel (G.711) Voice/Fax PVDM3 DSP DIMM PVDM daughter card.

Do you have any idea what the framing and signaling  and switch type should be?

Default PRI settings should be fine.

Thank you for the nice rating and good luck!

CCIS is a proprietary NEC protocol and Cisco cannot operate with it directly.

However- the NEAX2000 with the same T1 card can be configured for regular tie lines or qsig/PRI.

Paolo is correct about the hardware required, but just be clear that you will never get the systems talking if the NEC is configured for CCIS.

You will need to work with an NEC tech to make this work.

Hi Brandon,

On the Cisco, there are two techniques to make proprietary protocols to work over VoIP, even before taking the route of Circuit Emulation, that is much more expensive.

First, is tunneling of Q.931 messages in H.323 or SIP. Since the CCIS appears to be based on Q.931, that alone may suffice.

Second, is Transparent CCS. This way, the signalling channel is totally un-interpreted, and anything received is sent the other side. The B channels are transported all the time with 'trunk commands' with the option of VAD and compression, so the bandwidth optimization is still there.

Using one of the two will get any third party system going, hofully they can then migrate the entire system to Cisco at some point.

Thanks. Would you have an example of a config using transparent ccs?

Hi Mathew,

Here is a config and troubleshooting doc for TCCS:

Do you know if those connection trunks can use wild cards?

I tried to enter in connection trunk 98.. and it rejected it.

No wild cards in conenctiont runk (it would not make sense).

You can use them in the voip dial-peer.

To begin, just configure as per example.

For some reason we are receiving line code errors when connected to the NEC 2000 into the VWIC3-mft-t1/e1.

Here is the config of the side with the line code errors:
