Why we need MTP for RSVP ?

Can anybody explain me why we need MTP for RSVP? And why we use codec path-through command in MTP configuration for RSVP?

The RSVP agent is a transcoder/MTP resource that registers with CUCM with RSVP capabilities. The MTP provides an anchor point for the call to ensure end to end QoS and call admission control.

The codec pass-through command is required for support by CUCM and allows multiple streams in the same session - namely to support video calls.

Cisco RSVP Agent:

In order to provide topology-aware call admission control, Unified CM invokes one or two RSVP Agents during the call setup to perform an RSVP reservation across the IP WAN. These agents are MTP or transcoder resources that have been configured to provide RSVP functionality. RSVP resources are treated the same way as regular MTPs or transcoders from the perspective of allocation of an MTP or transcoder resource by Unified CM.

The Cisco RSVP Agent feature was first introduced in Cisco IOS Release 12.4(6)T. For details on RSVP and Cisco RSVP Agents, refer to the chapter onCall Admission Control.

The CUCM prioritize the MTPs with 'codec path-through' over other software MTPs
