ASA firewall rule management NSO vs CSM

Hello,

Any thoughts on using NSO for firewall rule (ACL) management vs Cisco Security Manager?

I’m trying to understand if it makes sense to introduce NSO on top of Cisco ASA firewalls for firewall rule management.  I don’t see a reason to re-build the CSM GUI using NSO + (some other GUI)…

Regards,

Dave

Re: ASA firewall rule management NSO vs CSM

Dave, All,

Here’s a hard and fast rule that I use:

If the customer:

  - Has a network where the number of vendors is > 1

   OR

  - has requirements that change faster than any vendor can keep up with (i.e. wants to develop/tailor some of it themselves)

…then they are likely interested in what NSO has to offer.

This also means that if it’s a single vendor network and the features in the vendor tool is enough, then NSO is likely overkill/wrong.
