NCS install in PROD

I’m reaching out to this community to see if there are any NCS ‘installation best practices’ for a Production grade environment that you have compiled/shared with your customers. These would be in addition to the information I’ve already reviewed in the NCS 3.4 Admin and Installation guides.

• If installation (system install) is possible only as a ‘root’ user ? What’s the best way to setup user ID’s to manage day-to-day administration of NCS ?

• Is there a recommended naming convention for installation, configuration, running directory locations ? Is it even recommended to customize these locations (keeping in mind future upgrade, un-installation tasks)

• Are there any logging configuration recommendations ? Setting for Java VM Timeouts etc. ?

We don't really have any such guide. We should write one !!

An excellent starting point though is the --system-install option to the ncs-XXX.bin install package.

That'll take care of quite a few of the concerns below.
