NSO 4.2 recently introduced Cisco Smart Licensing. I understand that by default NSO has 75 days in “EVALUATION MODE”. What happens to the NSO once 75 days run out? Does the 75 day clock reset with an NSO upgrade?
We are working to get the Smart Licensing setup for my customer but I need a plan B to ensure NSO works un-interrupted. I think we have about 35-40 days remaining since the last NSO install/upgrade.

Hi Nick,
We ran into a similar issue recently.
Once the evaluation period ran out, it appeared that we weren’t able to do a “package reload”. I’ve copied Krishna to confirm. We had to do a smart-license “renew” CLI command in NSO. The evaluation period got extended.
I was under the impression that smart-license has no enforcement. So this was something new.

Just to clarify.
There are no limitations what so ever added in NSO that depends on the license status.
It is completely non-limiting. The only thing it does is that information is added to the logs and if possible
also report the status to the smart licensing server.
If any other behaviour is observed it should be reported as a potential bug.

@Bilal – do we have a confirmed bug with the Licensing behavior post EVAL expiration? What version of NSO did you come across this in? We are running 4.2.1.4 in our customer’s PROD environment.
Lastly, did the Smart license “renew” command restore full NSO functionality once executed?

We have seen the issue with the package reload functionality after the evaluation license expired . NSO reported an error that the package reload cannot be done until the upgrade is finished . This issue was seen on a NSO test server .
We have enabled the development mode and have to restart the NSO to make it reload the packages . Please find the logs below.

Thanks, Krishna. Could you confirm the NSO release you encountered this issue with? Sounds like plan B would be to put NSO into DEVELOPMENT mode.
