addPhone: Security Profile is required for this device

I'm trying to add a device template to my CUCM using AXL. The device is based on an existing device, so all should be well (and of course I'm adapting the class appropriately).

Then I send of this (of course wrapped into the usual soap header)

Now hold on a minute, I say.. look at line 79 of the phone object I'm sending:

Isn't that the security profile CUCM is complaining about?

So I figured.. perhaps there are different security profiles for phone templates.. so I went ahead and loaded one of my existing templates that I added using ccmadmin. And lo behold.. it contains the exact same line. Next step is downloading the AXL traces and checking what kind of query makes it chuck that up, but I suspect the error doesn't really reflect what is actually going on.

There definitely appears to be a bug when adding a Phone Template. In 12.0, this does not work at all and UCM will return a SOAP Fault indicating "Invalid Value of Class". It appears that the behavior was changed by the fix for CSCva98980, but instead of fixing the ability to insert a template, it just blocks it entirely. Investigating to see if a more appropriate fix can be made...

I also implemented the same thing for UDPs and RDPs. Same problem for UDPs (well, slightly different .. see my other post), and no problems whatsoever with RDPs. RDP also being sort of a device (same table and all), it shows that it's not so hard. Give me the AXL source code and I'll provide a real fix. Can't be so hard to run the same code regardless of whether the type is a phone template or a phone.

Ticket has been filed: #2027. I assume that since tickets costs money there'll be a fix, not the lazy ass workaround of simply disabling this functionality.

The discussion is old but worth a reply: same bug is present in 11.5.1.16900-16 (SU5).

That's too bad because creating phone templates is one of the most slow operations to do via GUI.

Sorry this has taken so long. DE agrees this is a bug and the ability to insert a phone template should work. I've filed CSCvj04755 for this issue.
