ME3400 Ethertype

Is it possible to change the Ethertype used on a ME3400 switch (12.2(55)SE).

Our carrier uses 0x8100, but when we configure a QinQ port and send double-tagged packets to them, I think they  are going out ax 0x88a8.

I've found commands to do it on a 10K, but not on a 3400.. Is it possible, or do we need a bigger box?

Hi RC,

for your reference this topic has been partially covered already here:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3486802 from 802.1ah point of view. 802.1ad (which is the non Cisco proprietary version of QinQ) is pretty similar as both use ethertype 0x88a8.

Regarding the me3400 only the E version (Me3400E) is able to recognize and use ethertype 0x88a8.

So unless you have a Me3400E and you have the 802.1ad configuration as per the link below I suppose that your box is using 0x8100 instead.

Do you have captures showing the double-tagged frames going out from your box?

For more on 802.1ad configuration on me3400e see

Hi Riccardo.

Thanks for the reply. We've figured out this isn't an Ethertype issue and have now got QinQ working over the link.
