6VPE doesn't work: VRF address family ipv6 is not supported or not enabled

Hi all

I am just about to migrate our first customer vrf to dual-stack operation. Everything is easy to migrate and is working fine as long as I am dealing with the "small" 72xx and 28xx routers.

When it comes to our PE routers the trouble begins:

For our Cat6509 with Sup720/MSFC3 the Cisco software advisor is telling me that 6VPE is provided since 12.2(33)SXI minimum. Well, first I have tried to activate address-family ipv6 in a vrf definition on a machine running SXI1. Whenever I want to activate address-family ipv6 in the vrf definition I get

"VRF address family ipv6 is not supported or not enabled"

Another machine in the lab is running latest SXI5. But guess what, I get exactly the same reaction here.

So where is my mistake?

Grischa

Do you have the following configured?

!

ipv6 unicast-routing

mls ipv6 vrf
!

If not then configure them and try again.

Hi Atif

That's it. I had the first of course but forgot about the last.

Thank you very much,

Grischa
