CSC (Carrier Supporting Carrier) :- It is implemented when one service provider needs to use the transport service of another service provider.

Am i right ? If yes than any other benifits ?

Hello Nirav,

You are basically correct, the CSC is a way of using MPLS to interconnect locations of a single service provider (call him X) using the network of another service provider (call him Y). The key idea is that the service provider Y encloses the routes of the service provider X into a separate VRF. By this approach, the infrastructure networks of providers X and Y (IP networks used in backbones of providers X and Y) remain isolated and do not leak into each other as with regular BGP peering. In addition, the CSC allows for the provider X to offer MPLS VPN services to its customers transparenty over the provider Y's network, without needing any special requirements on the provider Y's side. Basically, the CSC is leveraging the concept of MPLS L3VPNs (provided by the provider Y) to offer a service of transparent transport of IP traffic to another provider X, without necessitating that the backbone routers of either provider know the entire list of networks present in the other provider's backbone.

The CSC solution is first and foremost a scalable solution as it prevents unnecessary route leakage from one routing domain to another. In addition, it allows the provider X to configure and operate its network almost as if it was entirely its own.

There may be other applications of the CSC but the basic motivation is this one. Of course, I would be more than glad if other friends here contributed their own explanations and rationales!

Best regards,

Peter

As Peter mentioned Above

Carrier supporting carriers (CSC) is implemented in circumstances in which one service provider needs to use the transport services provided by another service provider. The service provider providing the transport is called the backbone carrier and the service provider using the services provided by the backbone carrier is called a customer carrier. The customer carrier can either be an ISP provider or an MPLS VPN service provider.
